Il campionato di calcio inglese nasce nel 1888 con il nome di First Division, dall'edizione del 1992-93 il campionato prende il nome di Premier League. Il torneo e' organizzato dalla federazione inglese di calcio, la FA (Football Association). La vincente del campionato disputa la finale della Supercoppa Inglese e partecipa alla successiva edizione della Champions League
