Breve storia della competizione

Il campionato di calcio irlandese nasce nel 1921 con il nome di League of Ireland. Il torneo e' organizzato dalla federazione irlandese di calcio, la FAI (Football Association of Ireland) e la vincente del campionato disputa la finale della Supercoppa Irlandese, partecipa alla successiva edizione della Champions League e disputa la Setanta Sports Cup
